His deputy in the Chamber, Steven Matheï, will have to give up his seat in the hemicycle because Wouter Beke will resume his place as federal deputy.
The 44-year-old deputy was the first substitute on the CD&V list in Limburg in the federal elections on May 26, 2019 and replaced Wouter Beke when he became a minister in the Flemish government. He sees his mandate ending prematurely.
“Wouter Beke’s resignation is difficult for me“, reacted Steven Mathei on Twitter. “First and foremost for Wouter as a person and a colleague. I am also grateful for the opportunities that have been given to me. I was a deputy body and soul with a lot of commitment. Thanks to everyone who supported me“.
As a deputy, Steven Matheï was mainly active in the finance committee. He himself referred to his work on the reform of tax benefits for football players and estate agents.
