On Tuesday, Wout van Aert had the scare of his life. While training with Jan Bakelants and Daan Soete, a concrete mixer nearly cost the life of one of the greatest cyclists in history.
At a press conference, Wout Van Aert wanted to reassure everyone: he is fine! “These are incidents that unfortunately happen almost every day on the road”, began the Belgian during his press conference. “But we are still alive! It was a dangerous situation, but I didn’t come close to dying either”he explains.
”Wout was almost dead, it was scary”: did van Aert come close to disaster in training before the Tour of Flanders?
More fear than harm then. “This moment was a little unfortunate”, he continued. “I received many messages of concern, even from my wife. She thought I had almost been crushed during the fall. All these messages were not necessary. I’m still alive!”
