Wout van Aert pockets a mythical event: ‘I needed a little time to adapt to the conditions…’

Wout van Aert won the Koksijde cross, fifth of eight rounds of the X2O Cyclo-Cross Trophy on Thursday. The Belgian rider beat his eternal Dutch rival Mathieu van der Poel et Lauren Sweeck.

“I felt good on the bike today. It’s a real goal to win. It’s a great race, a mythical event in cyclo-cross. Observing at first was not really my tactic ” It’s important here to take the initiative because it’s better, with the sand, to ride in the lead. The first laps were difficult because it was raining. I needed a little time to adapt to the conditions. Winning on a difficult circuit like this is good for morale, especially before the world championships. It’s a great pleasure to see everyone along the course, I want to take advantage of it.”Wout van Aert told our microphone following his victory.
