After a grueling 11th stage, Wout van Aert had a little mishap on the way back to the team bus. The rider of the Jumbo-Visma team suffered a puncture and appealed to the public at the roadside in order to be able to get back on the road downhill. Help that he was able to reward in the best possible way.
Michele Pelacci, a spectator who was present on the side of the road, recounted this rather unusual scene with the green jersey of this Tour de France 2022.
“My brother had a puncture, we stopped on the side of the road to change the inner tube and guess who stops 5 minutes later? Wout van Aert”, explains this viewer, supporting images on Twitter. “There, I tell him ‘hey Wout, there is liquid coming out of your wheel’, he tells me ‘obviously it’s a tubeless’. At that moment, he asks for a pump and an English boy hands him one. The guy says to him ‘you are a legend Wout’ and Wout says to him ‘I have something for you, take the green jersey off me, it’s yours.“
A nice gesture that says a lot regarding the rider’s state of mind on this Tour de France of which he is one of the great protagonists.
