Would Hungary be one of the cheapest places in the world?

Even though inflation affects everything from eggs to cars, due to the dollar/forint or euro/dollar exchange rate, according to many foreigners, Hungary is still one of the cheapest places. Whether someone is planning a vacation or living a lifestyle in Hungary, he doesn’t have to dig deep into his wallet, at least according to several foreign portals. Do you agree with him?

Prices are constantly increasing, we spend more and more on food, clothes and household goods. Inflation is in double digits, which is surely felt by every Hungarian family. Foreigners, on the other hand, believe that, regardless of this, it is possible to stay in Hungary very cheaply, whether for a short or long term. What kind of living expenses do you think you can count on?

The country has a varied geography, with lush hills, vast plains and wonderful rivers. Budapest, crossed by the Danube, is referred to as the most beautiful city in Europe. The country offers both excellent financial opportunities and a relaxed rhythm of life for digital nomads looking for a balanced life abroad.

Portal information according to food prices are 101.62% higher in the United States and 64.82% higher in the United Kingdom than Hungarian prices. In the British, people pay 130.85% more in restaurants than here, but even in the French, a dinner costs 125.85% more on average. There is also a huge difference in sublet prices; in the USA, the monthly rent of an apartment costs 256.28% more, while in the UK it costs 173.36% more.

According to another portal, a daily meal costs only 17 dollars in Hungary, which is approx 6100 forints converted, while the average daily spending is roughly 30 dollars, which is approximately HUF 11,000. In their opinion, the monthly cost of living is around 1,000 dollars, which is HUF 359,000 at the current exchange rate, making it one of the cheapest places in the world.

Compared to American and British wages, this seems really low, but it’s a shame that the portals didn’t calculate who in Hungary earns that much on net today.

City recommendations for all age groups

Budapest and Debrecen are recommended to English speakers, citing excellent education, good medical facilities and outstanding infrastructure, although cold winters and high utility bills are mentioned as negatives.

Szeged is recommended for digital nomads, where the standard of education and healthcare is good, the thermal spas provide quality service, and there are many young people. At the same time, it is a disadvantage if someone does not know Hungarian.

For individual travelers, we recommend Sopron, which is one of the safest Hungarian cities with outstanding cultural values ​​and affordable everyday life in a beautiful location. The lack of English and the long distance from Budapest were also mentioned as disadvantages.

According to the site, Eger is for retirees, whose slow pace, cultural diversity, Turkish bath and wineries make it an excellent place for the older age group. The cold winter and the high number of people who do not speak a foreign language were cited as negatives.
