The Scotsman Willie Morgan, captain of Manchester United in the 1973-1974 season, which witnessed the relegation of the team to the first division, spoke regarding the state of the “Red Devils” at the present time.
“They say that no team is not relegated to the second division, this is an old saying, but it applies to the current team,” Morgan said in statements to the British newspaper, “The Sun”.
He continued: “We must sound the alarm bells at Old Trafford, because when we were relegated to the second division we were a much better team than the current team.”
The retired winger stressed that “our team in that period was better than the current generation, there was real cooperation between us, but we relegated in the end.”
Manchester United ranked 21st and penultimate in the English Premier League for the 1973-1974 season, but returned in 1975-1976 among the top ranks.
And regarding the secret of Manchester United’s relegation to the second division nearly 5 decades ago, he replied, “We made a mistake that we felt that we were better than relegating to the second division, but luck was not on our side due to injuries.”
He concluded: “The current situation is really pathetic, because they are not as good as we were, so they should pay attention so that things do not turn once morest them.”
