The director of the establishment explained the building problems that the school has and warned that in these conditions the taking of exams that begins on February 10 is not guaranteed, nor the beginning of the school year scheduled for March 1.
Cpem 40 is located in the west of the city of Neuquén, on Las Gaviotas and Diego Pizarro streets. Its director, Analía Galván, spoke on radio Lu5 and explained the fall of the ceiling in the men’s bathrooms. “Fortunately we are in January and there are no students” she expressed, faced with what might have been an accident.
He explained that on February 6 they are already joining the school, since from February 10 they should start taking exams and then start classes on March 1. Nevertheless, warned that “under these conditions, they are not guaranteed”
Galván explained that, during January, the management team kept passive guards at the establishment, but that they began to go for regarding two hours a day. “At that time we saw that it was maintenance at the request of the school. They saw that the water tanks had significant leaks in the school, the tanks were overflowing in the area of the trench that is above the boys’ restrooms where the ceiling collapsed”
He added that they had already issued the warning through the system maintained by the schools and that it ended up falling. Luckily, it happened at a time when no student was in the establishment because it was a vacation.
The claim for more classrooms and a work that did not start
The director explained that the school is regarding 40 years old and has a enrollment of 743 students in the two shifts. In 2021, they had already warned that the school was going to collapse “when the CPE decided that everyone pass the year.” In this sense, he explained that they came with courses in the form of an inverted pyramid since they had seven courses for the first year, five for the second, four for the third year, three for the fourth and three more courses for the fifth year. “We got to have 42-43 students in the second year and 49 students in the third year”
He assured that the school is in terrible condition. In addition to the falling ceiling and the lack of courses, he explained that they do not have internet, that the water tanks continue to leak and that also since November they have been demanding that broken glass be changed.
From Aten capital they explained that, due to the fall of the ceiling as a result of the loss of water in the tanks that were above, “the CPE had to make an exit so that it does not flood and the water escapes outside, but it did not”
In addition, they mentioned that at the moment they have no news of the work to expand classrooms and common spaces, that the education minister Osvaldo Llancafilo had promised to start in August of last year. They explained that, during the year, various courses were held in an annex located regarding 15 blocks from the school. “To date there is no news of the work”
