‘Worldwide’ pink shortage due to Barbie

‘Worldwide’ pink shortage due to Barbie

barbie required so much pink that the company ran out of supplies worldwide.

Director Greta Gerwig and the film Production designer Sarah Greenwood sat down last week to talk about the construction of Barbieland.

During the interview, Greenwood told Architectural Digest that the film caused an international shortage of pink.

He said, ‘The world is out of pink.’

Lauren Proud, vice president of global marketing for Roscoe, the company that used color in the film, confirmed Greenwood’s claim, telling the Los Angeles Times that ‘we had as much color as was used in the film.

‘They lacked and then we gave them all that we had. I don’t know whether they are entitled to claim that they have bought all the color from us.’

Speaking about the color of the set, Gerwig said: ‘I wanted it to be a very flashy pink, and everything to be pretty much the same.’

She added, ‘She doesn’t want to forget why I fell in love with Barbie as a child.’

The film’s actual dream house was built at Warner Bros. Studios in London.

The fuchsia pink fantasy house features a large wardrobe with Barbie clothes, a funky pink slide that drops into a pool full of floaties, and a pink heart-shaped bed with pink pillows and a clamshell headboard.

Gerwig and Greenwood say they were inspired by ‘Palm Springs mid-century modernism’ for this dream house because ‘everything about that era was so real.’

Barbie stars Margot Robbie as the main character and Ryan Gosling as Kane, along with other celebrities. The film will premiere on July 21.
