Vorarlberg at the professional world championships

With 20 gold, 14 silver and nine bronze medals, Vorarlberg is – from an Austrian perspective – in first place in terms of the number of medals won at the World Skills Championship, which has been taking place since 1961. Vorarlberg leads the Austrian comparison, ahead of Upper Austria (17 gold, 14 silver and 17 bronze) and Styria (11 gold, 11 silver and 12 bronze medals).

Austria won big at the last WorldSkills: Team Austria celebrated a total of twelve medals (six gold, five silver and one bronze medal) and 17 Medallions for Excellence, which are awarded for particularly outstanding performance.

WorldSkills als “Special Edition”

It is a very special premiere that will take place in 2022: following the cancellation of Shanghai, the WorldSkills competitions will take place around the world. For the first time in history, the World Skills Championships will be held in a total of 15 countries.

In addition to Austria, these will be Denmark, Germany, Estonia, Finland, France, Italy, Japan, Canada, Luxembourg, Sweden, Switzerland, South Korea, the USA and the United Kingdom. Austria competes in the “Skills around the world” version with 45 young professionals who compete in 39 professions with over 1,000 colleagues from all over the world.

Josef Herk, President of SkillsAustria, emphasizes:

“The know-how of our young specialists is presented by WorldSkills on a global educational stage. Our 45 Austrian participants become brand ambassadors for our excellent training and show how promising professional training is. In this country, I especially invite all young people to come to Salzburg in November to soak up the flair of the professional world championships, get to know the competitive professions and see the world’s best in action.”

Apply in Salzburg as the crowning glory

Seven competitions will be held in the city of Mozart from November 23rd to 27th: Specifically, these are concrete construction, building construction, electrical engineering, plant electrics, forwarding logistics, chemical laboratory technology and heavy vehicle technology. The competition area will be in the Salzburg exhibition center, the competitions will take place at the same time as the BIM career information fair. The competitions in Austria form the crowning glory of the WorldSkills Competition 2022 Special Edition.
