Washington: The US Food and Drug Administration has approved the world’s first RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus) vaccine. A vaccine once morest RSV, which kills thousands of people in the United States each year, must also be approved by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Only following this can it be made available to the public. It is expected that this vaccine, ArxV, prepared by the GSK company, may be available for people over 60 years of age in a few months. The effectiveness of a single dose of vaccine is 82.6 percent. RSV causes symptoms similar to Covid, such as colds and shortness of breath. It usually clears up within days in most people, but has been found to be severe in children, the elderly, and people with other health conditions. The CDC estimates that an average of 100 to 300 children under the age of five die from RSV each year in the US. Between 6,000 and 10,000 deaths are reported annually in people over the age of 65. If severe, RSV can cause complications including bronchiolitis.
