World Water Day: Schoolchildren flocked to the water tower and the Interactive Knowledge Library

We have been paying special attention to water on this day for more than 30 years, and over the decades it has become increasingly clear how important it is in our lives, and that it is not always available to us. On the World Water Day, the Szeged Water Works showed interesting details regarding the water supply, while the SZTE Interactive Nature Knowledge Center showed interesting details regarding the aquatic life on Friday, mainly to those coming from schools.

You can get up to the Water Tower for free on Fridays until 5 pm, and on Saturdays and Sundays you can buy an entrance ticket for not too much, 700 forints. So many school groups came to the 120-year-old water tower of the Szeged Waterworks on Szent István tér, but the Waterworks organized smaller programs separately for those waiting: they were made with short films, a quiz game, and the Vadaspark stand was also set up, where you might also make friends with guinea pigs.

In the Interactive Knowledge Store of the University of Szeged, mainly schoolchildren took part in the programs. Spectacular experiments, macro- and microscopic examinations were also presented to the children here, each of them brought the water and the organisms living in it closer to the schoolchildren. They learned regarding aquatic insects, and Elemér Szalma showed the guests small predators, but they also showed diving films and nature films.

László Kosznai, the head of the Tudástár, also told us that many people, when faced with the small creatures that are teeming in the water, decide not to set foot in natural waters once more. According to the environmental educator, of course, chlorinated water may be less favorable for bathers.

Water programs will be held in the Vadaspark on Sunday from 10 a.m. especially on the occasion of Water Day.
