For the second time in a few days, a World War II bomb has been found in Berlin. This time an area in Marzahn not far from Märkische Allee is affected. The police determined on Wednesday who must have left their apartment by when.
The day following a World War II bomb was found in Berlin-Marzahn, the district and the police announced details regarding the forthcoming defusing. On Thursday, 15,300 people near the site of the Geraer Ring had to leave their homes from 6 a.m.
The 500-kilo bomb was found during construction work on Tuesday and must be defused on Thursday. A restricted area was set up around the site. In the restricted area are mainly apartment buildings, but also supermarkets and a day care center.
In addition, the S and regional traffic will be affected by the defusing: The Ahrensfelde S-Bahn station will be closed from Thursday morning, and the S7 and RB25 lines cannot be operated in this area. In addition, the BVG bus lines 197, X69 and probably also 390 cannot drive in this area on Thursday.
Important traffic axes such as Märkische Allee and Wuhletalstrasse must be closed.
According to the Marzahn-Hellersdorf district, those affected who need a place to stay for the time of the blocking can apply on its website [berlin.de] from Thursday, 6 a.m. to the following locations:
Elementary school at Bürgerpark, Jan-Petersen-Straße 18 B
Rudolf Virchow High School, Glambecker Ring 90
Tagore High School, Sella Hasse Street 25
Victor-Klemperer-Kolleg Berlin, Martha Arendsee-Straße 15
Persons with dogs can go to the Kerschensteiner School, Golliner Straße 2.
Residents with restricted mobility who need help leaving their apartment can now request help via the following telephone numbers set up by the district: 0170/ 5633962 -0170/ 5644457 – 0170/ 5638991
It is still unclear when people will be able to return to their homes. The time of the defusing depends on when the evacuations are completed. Only then can the bomb be rendered harmless, according to the district. It is therefore important that all residents respond to the call to vacate their apartments as early as possible.
A police spokesman said the dud was a 500-kilo explosive device. According to forensic technology, the suspected aircraft bomb has been secured and is being guarded, but must be defused in principle. The police had already reported on Twitter on Tuesday that a 500-meter exclusion zone was being set up.
The forthcoming defusing in Marzahn is the second in Berlin within a week. Last Wednesday, a 100-kilo Soviet-made bomb was defused in Lichtenberg. She was found during construction work on Landsberger Allee.
Two neighboring furniture stores as well as a hardware store and a daycare center were evacuated in the morning, and 7,800 people were affected by the evacuations. The bomb was quickly rendered harmless by experts and was then taken to the detonation site in Berlin-Grunewald.
