Some 13,000 people were temporarily called out of their homes in a Düsseldorf neighborhood (western Germany) following the discovery of a World War II American bomb, city firefighters said Monday.

The US bomb, which weighs one ton, must be defused between Monday night and Tuesday morning. It was discovered during work in that neighborhood near the zoo, according to the firefighters’ statement.

“Due to the location of the bomb and the evaluation of the explosive ordnance disposal service, a B radius is not applicable. The deactivation will be done during the night to avoid significant damage to rail and commuter traffic,” the state of Düsseldorf in a statement.
