Never two without three. Titled in 2021 and 2022, Cannes has retained its crown as the best European destination for festivals and events.
At the continental World Travel Awards ceremony, held on Friday evening in Batumi (Georgia), the city of festivals beat out destinations such as London, Barcelona, Budapest, Derry (Northern Ireland), Dublin, Madeira, Munich or Venice, to treat yourself to an unprecedented hat-trick.
So, if the “Tourism Oscars” remain an event to be put into perspective (public votes only, multitude of categories), the “publicity stunt” nonetheless remains beneficial to the city. A distinction “which reinforces Cannes’ status as a leader in event tourism in Europe, propelling the Côte d’Azur towards flourishing economic horizons”, welcomed David Lisnard. The mayor, who recalls that in 2023, 80 million euros will be invested in projects such as the Allées de la Liberté, the modernization of the La Malmaison art center; and, obviously, the major renovation of the Croisette.
Towards a world double?
Initiatives “ambitious, which reflect our determination to keep Cannes at the top of the international events scene.”
President of the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès, Jean-Michel Arnaud greets “years of dedication and effort from our teams, but also from our customers and partners.”
Title which also recognizes the commitment and actions of the mission “Sustainably welcoming the world.” Dynamics translated, still in 2023, “in a record year, with more than 150 events and nearly 300,000 professionals welcomed to the Palais.”
Enough to retain the world crown, acquired last year? Response before the end of the year, the place and date of the “grand finale” still not having been communicated.
The Middle East and Africa must, in fact, still nominate, on October 15, their representatives for the global ceremony.
