It’s a close-knit team that is approaching this World Surfing Championship. With eyes riveted on the 2024 Olympics, the French results will ensure quotas for the nation for the meeting of the rings in Teahupoo.
The competition will be played without the best French: Michel Bourez, Jérémy Flores, and Johanne Defaye. But the succession is assured.
France has twice won the world title of nations: in 2017 in Biarritz and in 2021 in El Salvador. Six French people have won the individual Open world title: Heifara Tahutini (1990), Hira Teriinatoofa (2004 and 2010), Jérémy Florès (2009), Cannelle Bulard (2011), Pauline Ado (2017) and Joan Duru (2021). Tahutini and Teriinatoofa represented the Tahiti team when they won. Double world champion Teriinatoofa is now on the staff of the France team as an Olympic preparer.
