Luca Brecel is ahead of the World Snooker Final following the first two sessions played this Sunday at the Crucible in Sheffield, Great Britain. The Belgian leads by a short header 9-8 once morest the Englishman Mark Selby while there are still two sessions to be played, Monday at 2 p.m. and then at 8 p.m. Off to a good start in this final – he was leading 6-2 following the first session – Brecel saw his opponent suddenly return to the dance on Sunday evening.
Mark Selby, 2nd player in the world, showed the extent of his talent throughout the evening, starting this second session with a ‘century’ (frame of more than 100 points), to reduce the gap for the first time. Brecel was not impressed and signed a ‘century’ in turn.
Despite this nice response, it was Selby who dominated the evening, succeeding in passing a record break of 147, a rather rare performance in snooker and downright historic in the final of a world championship.
Halfway through this last act of the World Snooker Championship, the two finalists are neck and neck and will have to settle in the best of 35 frames.
Luca Brecel, nicknamed the ‘Belgian Bullet’, is playing his sixth World Cup. The youngest player to enter the final draw at 17 in 2012, he once more participated in the 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2022 editions and was eliminated each time in the first round. Brecel is already guaranteed to climb to 4th place in the world. He might even become world number 2 if he beats Selby in the final.
