The Sunswift 7, a project designed and built by students at the University of New South Wales, Australia, broke a rather specific, but nonetheless important world record: that of the fastest average speed recorded by a car electric over 1,000 km on a single charge.

Breaking the record by six minutes, the distance was covered in precisely 11 hours, 53 minutes and 32 seconds, an average speed of almost 85 km/h, at the Australian Automotive Research Center (AARC) in Wensleydale, Australia. state of Victoria. However, we will have to wait a little longer for this to be formalized by the Guinness Book of Records, while a team of experts analyzes the on-board telemetry data.
Spanning 240 laps of the circuit with regular stints between drivers, the performance was not without difficulty, however, as a flat tire had to be replaced and problems with the battery management system had to be faced. This last problem required a complete stop which took forever, knowing that one of the rules of the record is that the car cannot remain stationary for more than 15 minutes at a time. In the end, the car was able to return to the track following 14 minutes and 52 seconds!
Unfortunately, we only have very few technical details on the machine, whether it is the power of its engine, the capacity of its battery or the contribution of the solar panels. However, we know that its cx is 0.095, that the total mass is 500 kg and that the average consumption during these 1,000 km was 3.8 kWh/100 km.
