Blizzard takes drastic measures to fight against bots and cheaters.
Apart from continuing to work on news for Overwatch 2 and already preparing the launch of Diablo IV, Blizzard is also engaged in World of Warcraft Sanitationand one of the first steps is delete all bot accounts as possible. This has meant the indiscriminate banning of thousands of Death Knights, one of the most popular classes in this MMORPG. Not without having brought it on themselves.
It turns out that since the arrival of World of Warcraft to the classic era of Wrath of the Lich Kingsince the ability to create a Death Knight-type character was enabled regardless of game progress, has been used by bots and cheats dedicated to farming gold without consideration. This class has the peculiarity that start the game at level 55 and can skip the starting zone at level 58.
Blizzard’s Heavy Hand on Cheaters
In a publication of the blizzard forumsthe company has confirmed the banning of nothing more and nothing less than 120,000 accounts malicious weapons used by Death Knights to get advanced materials with hardly any game time. To prevent this behavior, Blizzard is bringing back a previous restrictive measure, the need to have reached level 55 with another character before a death knight can be created.
According to Blizzard, this ban is simply due to the misuse of this character class, it does not include other types of violations of the user terms and inappropriate behavior, so there could be more bans coming soon. This purge also tries to solve one of the biggest complaints from World of Wascraft Classic users for some time now, the lots of bots that flood the system.
At the moment it is not guaranteed that the game has been free of bots or cheaters, but of course it is a step forward by Blizzard.
