World Mother-in-Law Day: Celebrating the Special Women in Our Lives

2023-10-27 03:26:58

This October 26 marks World Mother-in-Law Day. The origin of this “celebration” is not clear, but it started on social networks.

It is also known that Eugene “Gene” Howe, journalist and editor of a local newspaper in Texas, decided to follow the model of celebrating Mother’s Day, established in the United States in 1908, and proposed Mother-in-Law’s Day, which was celebrated for the first time in 1935.

Although she is loved by some, and hated by others, she is still an important person in the lives of couples. For this reason, several singers, such as Paquita la del Barrio, sang songs to refer to her mother-in-law.

Some songs that are specifically for the mother-in-law are funny, others are loving, and some are spiteful. It is for this reason that you have several options to choose from depending on the case.

This song by Paquita la del Barrio refers to a woman who looks out for her children. According to the plot of the lyrics, she relates that her husband abandoned her, but she did not stop her life to wait for her return, which was a source of annoyance for her mother-in-law.

That is why in one of the stanzas he mentions the following: “Excuse me, mother-in-law, if you love your son so much, then you wait for him. Worry regarding your useless son, I will look following mine.”

This song by the group Banda Machos caused a stir when it was released in 2015, and the lyrics are very controversial.

At that time there was a debate regarding how he refers to his mother-in-law, who supposedly disappeared and to describe her he uses derogatory phrases.

Have you seen the body of a whale? o Have you seen how a crazy woman looks? These are some of the words heard in the verses of the melody.

Romeo Santos’ song also talks regarding a person who was not very nice. He even mentions things like “the blessed witch doesn’t want to see us happy.”

This song by Juan Carlos Luces is an even more descriptive version than that of Banda Machos, and it uses phrases like the following: “I’m going to give you a latest model porch with air and a stereo but it doesn’t have brakes.”

The melody of Las Voces Del Alba is special, because it does not speak with spite but with affection. She refers to the mother-in-law as a special woman and thanks her for being responsible for giving good love.

“There is a woman who without realizing it gave me a home. Thank you, my mother-in-law, for this family and for this home,” says part of the song.
