World Malaria Day: With certification of zero indigenous cases, Paraguay is an example in the region

Asunción, IP Agency.- This Thursday, March 25, World Malaria Day is commemorated, a disease against which Paraguay has the certification of zero indigenous cases, a recognition granted by the World Health Organization in 2018.

On this date, the World Health Organization, the Roll Back Malaria Alliance and other partners emphasize human rights to address concrete measures in the response to the disease worldwide, overcoming barriers to health equity.

The global malaria control strategy DTI–R (Diagnosis – Treatment – Investigation – Response) is a comprehensive approach applied for the prevention of reintroduction of malaria in the country and focuses on several key aspects to combat malaria effectively such as early detection, rapid diagnosis and treatment, investigation of cases and outbreaks, integrated vector management and an effective information system.

Paraguay is one of the exemplary countries in the Region of the Americas with the certification of zero indigenous cases. The WHO awards the award when a nation can demonstrate that it has interrupted the chain of local transmission at the national level for at least the last three years.

Currently, Paraguay continues to demonstrate that it has the capacity to prevent Malaria from establishing itself again, by having a permanent surveillance system in operation, in order to detect cases early to prevent the disease from establishing itself again.

Likewise, the National Malaria Program, dependent on the National Malaria Eradication Service (Senepa), continues with actions where the experience of decades of work accompanies, promotes and articulates integrated activities with all sectors of society.
