We know that if you want to go abroad, you need a passport. Even the Prime Minister or President of the country needs a passport. If you think that no one can visit another country without this passport then you are wrong. The ‘three’ people currently alive on earth can walk into any airport without a passport. Who are those three? What is so special regarding them?

What is a passport?

A passport is an official document that certifies which country you are a citizen of. This will become an important document to prove who you are when you travel to foreign countries. Many countries allow world leaders to visit without the need for a visa. But only three people can travel around the world without a passport.

The King and Queen of Japan

Japan has one of the most powerful passport countries in the world. The country regularly ranks among the top five in the list of world’s strongest passports. A Japanese citizen can visit up to 189 countries without a visa. Naruhito, the 126th Emperor of Japan’s Imperial Royal Family, and his wife, Empress Masakoke, can visit any country in the world without a passport.

The Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs says that it is ‘not appropriate to grant passports’ to their emperor and empress. Meanwhile, Japan grants diplomatic passports to other members of the Imperial Family.

Charles III

British King Charles III also does not have a passport. Charles’ mother, Queen Elizabeth, was also able to travel around the world without a passport. Britain issues passports to its citizens in the name of the monarch. Therefore, the British government argues that it is not appropriate to grant a passport to the king himself. Meanwhile, Queen Camilla and Prince William both have British passports.

It is from this year that passports named following Charles have been issued to British citizens. Until now, passports were issued to British citizens in the name of Queen Elizabeth. Charles does not need a driving license to drive on British roads.
