In preparation for the World Junior Championship, Team USA defenseman Lane Hutson spoke with TSN’s Mark Masters.
The Montreal Canadiens prospect has big ambitions for the United States team following the surprise elimination once morest the Czech Republic in the quarter-finals at the tournament played in the summer of 2022.
Hutson is currently playing on his team’s second pair of defense with Ryan Chesley, who was also drafted in the second round (37e) of the last draft by the Washington Capitals.
“Training camp went very well in Plymouth. The pieces of the puzzle are starting to come together to allow us to have a good tournament and hopefully take home the top honors. Every day we get better,” Hutson said.
Hutson is well aware that his performances with Boston University in the NCAA are closely scrutinized by fans and the Montreal media. Asked if he felt any interest in her, Hutson didn’t hide.
“I feel the love [des partisans des Canadiens], he launched with a big smile. That’s exciting. There is no place like Montreal. Fans take it seriously and that’s great. »
Hutson’s performances are enough to arouse interest. The 5-foot-9 mobile back has 18 points in 16 games with Boston U, which ranks him sixth among defensemen in the NCAA.
For the coming weeks, Hutson will be fully focused on his near-term goal of bringing the gold medal back to the United States. The defender believes his potential will be fully exploited during the tournament.
“Our structure allows me to support the offense and do what I love on the ice. We are smart, fast and we play with intensity and speed,” he concluded.
