The World Health Organization announced, in a statement, “the delivery of vital medical supplies to Lebanon to help it prepare to confront any health crisis that may occur.”
The organization indicated, “Two shipments arrived in Beirut today from the organization’s logistics center in Dubai, and included a sufficient quantity of medicines, surgical supplies, and trauma treatment supplies to meet the needs of between 800 and 1,000 injured people. The organization considered that “the health system in Lebanon is suffering from paralysis as a result of the economic crisis, the Beirut port explosion that occurred in August 2020, and the Syrian refugee crisis, which has placed an additional burden on it. It stated, “Since the escalation of violence between Israel and the occupied Palestinian territory on Saturday last week, there have also been reports of clashes on the border between Israel and southern Lebanon that resulted in civilian casualties. If the intensity of these clashes escalates, more civilians will be exposed to danger, and will need to obtain “Immediately receive the necessary medical care to save their lives.”
It stressed that it “is working with the Ministry of Public Health and partners in the health field in Lebanon to enhance the health system’s preparedness and readiness to confront any increase that may occur in infections resulting from the escalation of violence.
