World Health Organization decides on a global emergency

The World Health Organization is set to consider extending the global public health emergency Thursday with the help of an independent panel of experts.

The “current public health emergency of international concern” has been in place for nearly two years due to the coronavirus pandemic. This is the highest alert level that the World Health Organization can impose.

The committee plans to make a recommendation by evening, and the World Health Organization usually follows its advice.

“This virus is on the way to becoming endemic,” said Maria Van Kerkhove, an expert on the Corona virus at the World Health Organization, late on Wednesday.
But we haven’t gotten there yet.”

Within the European Union, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez has already suggested that it be treated like the flu.
