Within the framework of World Egg Week, which is celebrated from October 9 to 13, the Argentine Chamber of Poultry Producers (CAPIA) highlighted the reasons that make eggs an essential food in the daily diet. From its richness in nutrients to its positive impact on health, eggs offer nutritional advantages that are essential for human well-being.

From CAPIA they explained that, due to its nutrient density and high-quality protein content, it is important in the daily diet. It is a complete source of protein that contains the 9 essential amino acids for the body, making it an essential food for babies, young people and pregnant women, in addition to being valuable in environments with limited resources. These proteins play a vital role in the formation of muscle mass, as well as the production of blood, hormones and antibodies.

Additionally, vitamin D is essential for the proper functioning of the immune system, which is the body’s first line of defense once morest disease and infection. Although sun exposure is usually the main source of vitamin D, factors such as time indoors and protection from ultraviolet radiation can affect vitamin D levels. Eggs offer a natural source of vitamin D, which helps maintain a strong immune system.

In this sense, vitamin B12, necessary for the formation of red blood cells and energy metabolism, is found mainly in foods of animal origin. Eggs, however, are a valuable source of vitamin B12, making them essential in vegetarian diets, where this vitamin may be scarce. A single serving of egg provides 20% of your daily vitamin B12 needs.

Consuming choline adequately during these periods can improve brain function in babies and help prevent birth defects. Eggs are a highly bioavailable source of choline, and two eggs a day can meet 50% of the recommendations for this nutrient during pregnancy, providing a crucial boost to development in the first 1,000 days of life.

Meanwhile, physically active people and athletes have specific nutritional requirements. Eggs, being rich in a variety of essential nutrients, are a smart choice for those seeking optimal physical performance and balanced nutrition. Two eggs provide more than 15% of the recommended daily intake of several vitamins and minerals for adults ages 20 to 49.
