Solve for Tomorrow and Samsung Innovation Campus are Corporate Citizenship programs that foster critical thinking and collaboration among participants in developing new answers for a better world for all
It is no exaggeration to say that social changes for a better tomorrow happen when we nurture the potential of youth. And, on the World Day of Creativity and Innovation, celebrated on April 21, Samsung Electronics recalls its global Corporate Citizenship programs that, together, have already impacted the lives of more than 280,000 young people in Latin America.
Since 2014 in Latin America, Samsung Solve for Tomorrow brings together students to bring creative and innovative ideas to life for a better future, encouraging them to use the STEM approach (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) to find solutions to social and environmental problems in their communities. Young participants have the chance to engage in a range of educational experiences – such as Design Thinking training and mentoring with Samsung employees – all designed to stimulate skills such as critical thinking, creativity, cooperation and communication.
In Brazil, the project is on its way to its 10th edition in 2023 and has already involved more than 168,559 students, 36,420 teachers and 6,049 public schools. In addition, in 2022, the program recorded a 65% increase in the number of students enrolled, compared to the previous year. One of the highlights of the edition was the Horta Magnética project, developed by five students from the Dom Ungarelli Full Time Teaching Center, in the city of Pinheiro, Maranhão. The prototype was created with the aim of assisting in the school’s planting process, following the institution’s vegetable garden, created in 2021, was compromised by heavy seasonal rains in the region.
The Samsung Innovation Campus, a global program that trains young people in the areas of Information and Communication Technology and supports their insertion in the world of work, also encourages the development of innovative solutions as part of the final project of each course. In Brazil since 2021, the program graduated a total of 55 students last year. Notable projects included a program that uses Artificial Intelligence (AI) to predict people’s sleep quality; an artificial manipulation and recognition system that uses AI to classify images, and a parking automation system that uses AI to capture license plates in real time, directly from the image captured by the camera recording.
Another program focused on technological training is Samsung Ocean, which offers free monthly courses, classes and events on technology and innovation. The initiative promotes content both online and in person, on the Manaus and São Paulo campuses, in partnership with the State University of Amazonas (UEA) and the University of São Paulo (USP). Samsung Ocean also includes other initiatives, such as Ocean Lab, Ocean Beginner, Ocean N2 and Ocean Launch, which operate in the innovation sector, offering mentoring and support from specialists in the creation of technological solutions, prototypes and support for startups in the pre-production process. incubation, in order to develop their businesses and make connections with innovation ecosystems.
“Aware of the great importance of Education, Samsung works to provide young people with knowledge, skills and tools to build a better world. Firm in this purpose, we leverage the innovation and creativity of these new minds full of ideas through our Corporate Citizenship programs, which encourage young citizens to contribute to positive changes in society”, points out Helvio Kanamaru, Director of ESG and Corporate Citizenship for Samsung Electronics Latin America.
Guided by the global corporate citizenship vision “Together for Tomorrow! Enabling People”, Samsung empowers young people to reach their full potential and become the next generation to pioneer positive social transformations in the world.
