World Day for the Decriminalization of Abortion

2023-09-28 08:00:04

Every year around the world, there are approximately 73 million induced abortions. However, although in France, abortion (voluntary termination of pregnancy) has been decriminalized since 1975, this is not the case in all countries, pushing women to resort to clandestine, unsafe abortions.

Thus, according to the WHO, around 45% of abortions are unsafe and the vast majority of these (97%) take place in developing countries. Unsafe abortion is a leading cause of maternal death and morbidity. What are the consequences for women’s health? Regularly threatened, where is the right to abortion in the world?
