Doha: Spectators arriving by land for the World Cup in Qatar should park their vehicles at the Abu Samra border, the local organizers, the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy, said. The Supreme Committee also stated that Park and Ride facilities will be provided at Abu Samra for the visitors. Meanwhile, vehicles can enter Qatar with special permission only in emergency situations. The organizers also informed that advance booking required for parking vehicles at Abu Samra will be effective from October 15.

The second Qatar-Saudi coordination meeting regarding entry procedures to Qatar through the Abu Samra border during the FIFA World Cup was concluded in Doha. Brigadier General Nasser bin Abdullah Althani, Head of Border Passport Section, said that the Saudi delegation led by Brigadier General Saeed bin Bandar Al Soor, Assistant Director General of Passport for Ports Affairs, is welcoming and that the coordination meeting will be very helpful in facilitating the flow of fans through the land border during the World Cup.

Nasser Abdullah Althani added that this is a continuation of the first meeting held in the month of August and the aim is to strengthen the joint cooperation related to the entry and exit procedures of the fans through the land border during the World Cup. During the World Cup, Qatar’s preparations for the World Cup and the previously approved methods for the entry of fans into Qatar via the Abu Samra border were discussed in the meeting.

Special plan to bring fans to Qatar

Nasser Al Khatir, the CEO of FIFA World Cup Qatar, announced last month that a special plan is under consideration to bring the Saudi fans who are coming to Qatar via the New Salwa border for the World Cup. Al Khatir also stated that buses are being considered to bring Saudi fans to Doha Metro stations from the Salwa border to connect them to stadiums or other facilities.

He has informed that the idea of ​​leaving these buses from Saudi Arabia itself is being considered and more information regarding this will be released later. The renovated Salwa border was opened a few weeks ago. The border has been upgraded by increasing the daily crossing capacity from 3000 to 12,000 vehicles.

Doha: Ashgal has announced that the passenger lounge in the vehicle parking area for fans crossing the border during the World Cup is operational. The passenger lounge started functioning on trial basis the other day. The passenger terminal at Abu Samra border was set up with the cooperation of the Abu Samra border management committee under the Ministry of Interior, Ashgal, the public works department, and the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy.
