Doha: Vehicular travel has been banned on the Doha Corniche, the venue of the World Cup celebrations, since November 1. Officials have announced that access to the Doha Corniche will be restricted to pedestrians only until December 19, when the World Cup ends. The decision was taken in a Cabinet meeting chaired by the Prime Minister.
As part of preparations for the World Cup, which kicks off on November 20, restrictions on vehicle access to the Corniche were imposed 20 days before.
Doha Corniche is the main venue for Qatar’s celebrations during the World Cup. At a distance of six kilometers, the Corniche will be the venue for various celebrations. Around six lakh people are expected on the Corniche every day during the tournament. Adjacent to the Corniche, Al Bidda Park is the most important FIFA fan zone for the World Cup.
