With just days left for the World Cup, there is another war of words between the Bangladeshi players. The tension between captain Shakib Al Hasan and opener Tamim Iqbal has reached a new level.
Tamim Iqbal’s name was not included when the Bangladesh squad for the World Cup was announced. Tamim says that the cricket board’s political interference is the reason for his ouster.
Tamim alleged that a BCB official told him to go down in the batting order if he wants to be included in the World Cup squad and if not, be prepared to be out of the team.
“Someone called me and told me to go down in the batting order or else be prepared to be out of the team. I was shocked to hear this. In my 17-year career, I have never gone down the batting order,’ said Tamim.
Captain Shakib Al Hasan has responded to these words of Tamim. Shakib’s response was that Tamim’s was just childish stubbornness.
‘Rohit Sharma has built his career by moving from number seven to the role of opener. Tamim sometimes bats at number three and number four. Is this a big deal? This is my bat, so he has a childish insistence that I will play. A player should be ready to bat in every position for the team,’ said Shakib.
Earlier, the Tamim-Shakib war started when Tamim Iqbal said that if he is considered for the World Cup, he should consider that he is not fit and he cannot play more than five matches in the World Cup.
After this, Bangladesh captain Shakib came forward with a response that if Tamim’s request is granted, he will not play in the World Cup. When the squad was finally announced, Tamim was not included.
Bangladesh’s first match is on October 7. Afghanistan will be the opponents in the match to be held in Dharamsala.
