Carried by a double from Gareth Bale, Wales beat Austria 2-1 on Thursday in Cardiff in the 2022 World Cup play-off semi-finals and qualified for the final.
The Welsh captain opened the scoring with a superb free kick (25th) before repeating with a shot from the skylight (51st), while Ben Davies deflected an attempt from Marcel Sabitzer in his own camp (65th). Sweden edged the Czech Republic 1-0 in extra time in Path B semi-final of the 2022 World Cup Europe Qualifying play-off. Unable to decide between themselves at the end of regulation time, the two nations went into extra time with a score of 0-0. It was the Swedes who were going to come out on top thanks to a goal from Robin Quaison in the 110th minute of play. The only goal of this meeting sent the Swedes to the final of path B on Tuesday against Poland. The latter, normally opposed to Russia, qualified without playing after the exclusion of the Russians due to the invasion of Ukraine by Moscow.
