The Sportschau team of experts puts it together: How would Sami Khedira, Thomas Hitzlsperger, Almuth Schult and Bastian Schweinsteiger go into the game against Spain with the DFB team?
The sports show experts at Antonio Rüdiger and Thomas Müller agree. Defense boss Rüdiger is set by everyone as a left central defender. All four experts would also bring veteran Müller back from the start. Hitzlsperger and Schult on the wings, Khedira and Schweinsteiger up front in the center.
It’s more exciting in midfield and up front. The Sportschau panel of experts has developed some creative ideas – from the starting XI with a classic center forward to Joshua Kimmich in the right-back position.
Sami Khedira puts Thomas Müller at the top
The former national player Sami Khedira would change the German team in three positions compared to the opening match: Thilo Kehrer slips into the defensive line for Nils Schlotterbeck, Leroy Sané starts on the wing instead of Serge Gnabry. Leon Goretzka is in the starting XI for Kai Havertz. Thomas Müller takes over Havertz’ place at the top.
Almuth Schult relies on center forward Füllkrug
National goalkeeper Almuth Schult also relies on Thilo Kehrer instead of Nils Schlotterbeck. Christian Günter from Freiburg should also bring additional stability to the defense instead of David Raum from Leipzig. The midfield stays the same as in the Japan game, there is only one change offensively: Niclas Füllkrug replaces Kai Havertz in the starting lineup.
Bastian Schweinsteiger and the Bayern offensive
Like Almuth Schult, sports show expert Bastian Schweinsteiger also swaps two positions in the defensive line: Matthias Ginter and Thilo Kehrer replace the Dortmund duo Niklas Süle and Nico Schlotterbeck. Offensively, the ex-Bayern player relies entirely on FC Bayern: Kai Havertz out, Thomas Müller up front, Leon Goretzka in attacking midfield. Leroy Sané replaces his club-mate Serge Gnabry on the right wing.
Thomas Hitzlsperger: Kimmich like Lahm in 2014 as a right-back
Sports show expert Thomas Hitzlsperger proposes the most radical change: he would move Joshua Kimmich to the right-back position, which has been tricky for years. Nico Schlotterbeck would give way in the defensive line. Leon Goretzka slipped into the vacated midfield position for Kimmich. There is only one offensive change in “Hitz”: Leroy Sané replaces Serge Gnabry in the starting XI.
