World Champion Tyson Fury defeats Dillian Whyte: ‘What a way to go’

As expected, world boxing champion Tyson Fury (33) defended his heavyweight title in what may be the last fight of his career. The Brit defeated fellow countryman Dillian Whyte by knockout in the sixth round on Saturday in front of 94,000 spectators at London’s Wembley Stadium.

Fury remains champion of the WBC association. He then reiterated his announcement that he would retire following the battle.

“First of all, I want to say that I dedicate this victory to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. In his name I won this fight in my country. In my England. We are Spartans,” Fury said right following the fight BT Sport.

He said he was “overwhelmed by the support. I can’t believe 94,000 compatriots came here to watch me. I wholeheartedly thank everyone who bought a ticket and stayed up late to see this fight.”

The “Gypsy King” paid tribute to his opponent and predicted a great future for him. “Dillian is a warrior and I believe he’s going to be world champion. He’s one of the greatest and unfortunately he had to fight me tonight. You’re not dealing with a mediocre heavyweight, you’re dealing with the best man on the planet .”

Fury wants to stick to his plan of wanting to retire from active sport following the fight. “I promised my wife that following the fight once morest [Deontay] Wilder is over. But I was offered a fight at Wembley and I owed it to the fans. What a way to go.”

But Showman Fury wouldn’t be Fury if he didn’t keep a back door open: “That might have been the last curtain for the Gypsy King,” said the 33-year-old in the exuberance of emotions following the battle.
