On her Instagram account, Dafne Schippers announced Tuesday the end of her career, at 31 years old. “The race ends here,” wrote the Dutch sprinter. As an athlete, you always know that day will come, that at some point your career will be a moment in time, with a collection of memories and hopefully medals. »

Schippers had been crowned world champion in the 200m twice, in Beijing in 2015 then in London in 2017. At the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro in 2016, she was silver medalist over the same distance, beaten by the Jamaican Elena Thompson.

The Dutchwoman was also four times European champion, signing a double 100m – 200m in 2014 then a second in 100m and 4x100m in 2016. In recent years, her career had been slowed down by numerous injuries. Schippers had not raced for a year.
