ALGIERS – Ousmane Dione, World Bank Vice President for the Middle East and North Africa, welcomed “the progress Algeria has made in recent years” in Algiers on Thursday.

In his speech at the end of the audience granted to him by the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Mr. Dionne said that he and the President of the Republic “outlined the cooperation between Algeria and the World Bank, which made it possible to observe the progress achieved by Algeria in recent years.

In this regard, he assured that “these are great advances that are part of the dynamics of modernization policies and have yielded concrete results”, citing once again the fact that “Algeria has become a middle-income country” according to the latest World Bank ranking.

The World Bank vice president described the ranking as “a wonderful thing” and assured that “the World Bank, as an international financial institution, stands with Algeria and is ready to support it.”

In this context, Mr. Dionne said that he had discussed with the President of the Republic how to “raise Algeria’s profile at the international level” and estimated that “the good results achieved by Algeria deserve not only to be known but also to be shared”.

From this perspective, he pointed out the great potential of Algeria, adding that “a dynamic partnership can be part of the country’s rapid transformation and take an extremely positive and proactive approach that will enable Algerians to accelerate their prosperity”.

“We will work hand in hand with the Algerian authorities (…) in accordance with their priorities and needs to increase, develop and optimize the great potential that this country holds for the benefit of all Algerians,” he insisted.

“What is good for Algeria is good for the World Bank, and what is good for Algeria is good for Africa,” he further stressed.
