Tunisia and the World Bank on Thursday signed a loan agreement of 268.4 million dollars intended to finance the electricity interconnection project (ELMED) linking Tunisia and Italy.
This project concerns the connection between the electricity networks of Tunisia and Europe and is part of the efforts aimed at promoting renewable energies and the fight once morest climate change.
Quoted by the media, the Resident Representative of the world Bank (WB) in Tunisia, Alexandre Arrobbi, indicated that “ELMED” is the first WB project carried out under the new Country Partnership Framework (CPF) with Tunisia which was announced recently.

The World Bank financing will cover, he added, part of the investments for the construction of the main converter station and associated substations on the Tunisian side, as well as assistance in establishing the interconnection.
And to emphasize that support for the country’s 2035 energy strategy is one of the main priorities of the Bank in the context of the application of the new CPF.
Lasting five years, the new CPF aims, in particular, to create quality jobs by the private sector, strengthen human capital and improve resilience to climate change and reduce carbon emissions.
Endowed with an annual envelope of 500 million dollars, the implementation of the CPF is jointly by the WB, the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA).
