World Bank Appreciates Indonesia’s Economic Growth – 2024-07-27 14:11:56

The World Bank appreciates Indonesia’s economic growth which can be maintained stably at above 5 percent with a low inflation rate.

The appreciation was conveyed by World Bank Managing Director Anna Bjerde in her meeting with Indonesian President Joko Widodo at the Presidential Palace, Jakarta, Thursday, as conveyed by Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto.

“Earlier, the President received the Managing Director of the World Bank, Mrs. Anna, accompanied by the World Bank Jakarta. In the meeting, the World Bank appreciated Indonesia’s stable economic growth of above 5 percent and with a low inflation rate,” said Airlangga as reported by Antara, Thursday (25/7).

The World Bank stated that global economic growth this year is around 2.6 to 2.7 percent. And it is estimated that global economic growth next year will only be around 4.8 percent.

Well, therefore, the World Bank also appreciates the programs carried out by the government,” said Airlangga.

According to him, the World Bank appreciates among others poverty reduction programs and also programs related to infrastructure for agriculture, including irrigation. “Earlier the World Bank delegation from Lombok saw how farmers’ incomes increased and irrigation was running well. Then also the results of agriculture boosted the exchange rate of farmers,” he explained.

The World Bank also appreciates Indonesia’s stunting prevention and reduction program.

According to Airlangga, on that occasion President Joko Widodo said that there was a decrease in the stunting rate from 37 percent to 21 percent, as well as a decrease in extreme poverty from 6.2 percent to 0.8 percent. The President also talked about the village fund program, where the village fund of Rp71 trillion was used for various activities in rural areas including to reduce stunting.

“Of course, in the future, related to our plan to enter a high-income country, several priorities that have been carried out by the President so far, such as infrastructure, toll roads, sea ports, and then encouraging connectivity, are very much appreciated, as is the downstream program,” he explained.

The President also conveyed the importance of food security and green energy in the future. (Z-6)
