While Candidate Ho-young Jung for Minister of Health and Welfare has worked as a doctor at the Red Cross Hospital for many years in the past, the Red Cross membership fee paid over the past five years was 20,000 won in total.
According to the data received by the Democratic Party’s Kang Hospital’s office on the 24th through the Ministry of Health and Welfare candidate’s personnel hearing preparation team, the amount of Red Cross membership dues paid by Candidate Jeong over the past five years was 10,000 won in 2018 and 10,000 won in 2022, totaling 20,000 won.
No dues were paid in 2019, 2020 and 2021.
The Red Cross membership fee raised by the Korean Red Cross is used to support the vulnerable, provide emergency relief in disaster-affected areas overseas, and provide disaster safety education and public medical services.
A portion of the Red Cross membership fee is also used to support the Red Cross Hospital, which is often used by the underprivileged.
Considering that Candidate Jeong worked as the 2nd surgical department, medical department, and general surgery department head at Daegu Red Cross Hospital from 1993 to 1998, it is pointed out that he would have been more fully aware of these uses and roles of the Red Cross membership fee. .
Daegu Red Cross Hospital closed in 2010 due to deficits and other reasons.
When Candidate Chung becomes Minister of Health and Welfare, he will serve as the Central Committee member and Steering Committee member in accordance with Articles 11 and 12 of the Korean Red Cross Organization Act.
According to the personnel hearing request submitted to the National Assembly, candidate Chung reported a total of 6.24 billion won of assets, including two neighborhood living facilities worth a total of 3.4 billion won.
In response to these criticisms, the Ministry of Health and Welfare candidate personnel hearing preparation group announced that if the scope was expanded to the last 11 years, the Red Cross dues were paid a total of 7 times (2012-2016, 2018, 2022).
The preparatory group explained, “The candidate has been paying the Red Cross dues continuously while working.
The preparation team added that the candidate has been supporting the briquette sharing movement since 2015 (excluding 2020-2021) and the Community Chest of Korea since 2016.
