“Work visas, an opportunity for Tunisians wishing to work in Malta”

Work visas can be an opportunity for Tunisians wishing to work in Malta, which is a Member State of the Schengen area and whose visa regime is identical to that of the other Member States, declared the Maltese Minister for Foreign, European Affairs and Trade, Iyan Borg.

Responding to a question from TAP, the Head of the Maltese diplomacy underlined “that there is a mechanism which makes it possible to submit applications for work permits to qualified foreign nationals, including Tunisians”.

The Government Identity Malta Agency, which operates in coordination with Maltese embassies abroad, is responsible for reviewing work visa applications which will then be approved by the relevant authorities,” he added.

This mechanism, which applies to all job applications from foreign nationals without distinction, might be an advantage for Tunisians, and in particular young people who want to work in Malta, but who still have problems obtaining visas, he said, specifying however that “the process of examining the files can take time”.

“Job offers from Maltese employers and requests from Tunisian nationals have already been received by the Identity Malta agency and our Consulate in Tunis,” said the head of Maltese diplomacy.

It should be recalled that senior Maltese officials declared, during a prospecting visit to Malta, from May 22 to 25, 2022, by 45 Tunisian businessmen operating in various economic sectors, that the Maltese market needs labor work and might absorb up to 10,000 Tunisian workers under legal contracts.

Organized by CONECT, in partnership with the Embassy of Tunisia in Valletta, the Embassy of Malta in Tunis, Malta Enterprise and Malta Chamber, this third post-covid economic mission targeted SMEs looking for expansion opportunities. to foreign markets.

This event made it possible to organize meetings with Maltese business leaders as well as with senior officials, in particular, the Maltese President George Vella, the Minister for European Affairs and Trade. Partnership contracts were also signed by businessmen from both countries.
