Won-dollar exchange rate closes at 1,290 won for the first time in 13 years

The won-dollar exchange rate ended at 1,290 won.

In the Seoul foreign exchange market today, the exchange rate of the won against the dollar closed at 1,290 won and 50 per dollar, up 4 won and 10 from the previous day’s closing price.

It is the first time in 13 years since July 14, 2009 (1,293.0 won) to close the market at 1,290 won.

The exchange rate opened at 1,289.0 won and rose to 1,293 won 30 before 1:30 pm, breaking a new high for the year.

The dollar continues to strengthen ahead of the announcement of the results of the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting of the US central bank, the Federal Reserve, scheduled for tomorrow morning.

If the Fed raises the key interest rate significantly, it is expected that the preference for the dollar will strengthen and the won-dollar exchange rate will continue to rise.
