Women’s Volleyball Earns Bid To NIVC Tournament

Lindenwood Women’s Volleyball Lands in 2024 National Invitational Volleyball Championship

Lindenwood women’s volleyball is heading back to the postseason. After claiming the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament with a dominant 3-0 sweep of Morehead State, the Lions earned a spot in the 2024 National Invitational Volleyball Championship (NIVC). The NCAA Division I program is looking to make a significant impact in the tournament despite being ineligible for the NCAA Championship due to its transition to Division I.

Ready for a Competitive Road to the Championship

The tournament pathways offer a set of thrilling matchups. Eight host institutions will kick start the action on December 4, and the final match will be held between December 15-18. All matches will take place at campus locations, adding an exciting element of home-court advantage for some teams.

Lindenwood finds itself in the DePaul Region, ready to face off against Nebraska-Omaha on Thursday, December 5 at 4:00 p.m. CT in Chicago, IL at the McGrath-Phillips Arena. The winner of this contest will advance to take on the victor of the DePaul and Toledo matchup held a day later.

A Field Steeped in Talent

Paw prints can be found throughout the 2024 NIVC field, demonstrating the tournament’s competitive nature. Eleven automatic qualifiers, who won or shared their regular season conference championships are included in this year’s field, showcasing the strength of these teams. In addition, 14 teams boasted 20 or more wins on the court this season, highlighting the depth of talent within the tournament.

Lindenwood is not alone in representing the Ohio Valley Conference. Southeast Missouri State is also participating, creating a playful rivalry within the tournament itself.

Not Just About Winning

“The makeup of the 2024 NIVC field is yet another indicator that dozens of Division-I programs share the hunger to seek out a postseason experience and have the depth of skill to make it a compelling journey,” said NIVC director Jared Rudiger. “We are happy to provide a championship setting where teams can enjoy a significant reward for the hard work and dedication they’ve displayed this season.”

Lindenwood Lions: Ready to Roar

Lindenwood enters the tournament with an impressive 23-10 record, achieving their highest win total since 2011 and recording their most wins in the NCAA era. Leading the charge is OVC Coach of the Year Will Condon. With key playmakers, including Setter of the Year Allie Otten and Freshman of the Year Autumn Bax, the Lions will be hard to beat. Winning this year’s first team All-OVC accolades along with Otten are Rebecca Janke, Nyah Wilson, and Jessie Seidel.

The Lions are eager to accept this call to compete. The event previously ran from 1989-95, and Lindenwood is primed to add its name to the history books alongside former champions, including Wichita State (2023), Boston College (2022), UNLV (2021), Georgia Tech (2019), Iowa State (2018) and Ole Miss (2017).
