The women’s soccer teams of Mexico and the United States completed the Semifinals of the W Gold Cup this Sunday in which El Tri will face Brazil and the Stars and Stripes team will challenge Canada.

The BMO Stadium, located in the American city of Los Angeles, served as the setting for the last two matches of the Quarterfinals.

The Mexican National Team had to work hard to beat Paraguay 3-2, and in the second match the United States beat Colombia 3-0.

The host team barely needed the first half to defeat the Cafeteras with a penalty goal in the 13th minute by Lindsey Horan, another by Jenna Nighswonger and that by Jaedyn Shaw in the second minute of annexation.

Nerves, multiple errors in the delivery of the ball and gross errors in defense condemned the team led by Angelo Marsiglia.

Mexico advanced at the expense of Paraguay

Mexico, which surpassed the group stage as leader of Group A with 7 points out of a possible 9 and 10 goals in favor, won with a double from Lizbeth ‘la Maga’ Ovalle, one of the two scorers of the tournament with five goals. Paraguay was about to tie the match.

The pupils of Spanish coach Pedro López Ramos opted for the offensive from the start and pushed the Paraguayans towards their goal until the 31st minute.

Ovalle opened the scoring with a cross shot that Paraguayan goalkeeper Alicia Bobadilla could not save. Just beginning the second half, in the 49th minute came Mexico’s second goal, a goal from Karen Luna who kicked a ball into the area that was cleared by the Guarani defense after a corner kick.
