Team boss Alexander Bröms’ selection defeated hosts Norway 2-1 after a penalty shootout on Saturday. The match winner was Anna Meixner, who scored in the middle third (34th) to make it 1-1 and was the only player to score in the shootout. The Austrians won the first game of the three-nation tournament against Hungary 4-1, which Norway lost 6-0.
The Linz players Emily Wiesinger and Christina Bayer, who play for the Ice Cats Linz, and Hanna Obermayr, who plays for the Salzburg Eagles, were there for the ÖEHV national team in Lillehammer.

15 players from Linz on national team duty
In addition, two Ice Cats players, Lara Reisinger and Katharina Stieger, are in action at the U18 national team camp in Skien (also in Norway). The same applies to Pia Obermayr, who currently plays in the Upper Austria Ice Hockey Academy.
There are currently four players from the DHC Icecats Linz AG on the U16 national team: Klara Jobst, Ella Maierhofer, Leah Obermayr and Johanna Zehetner were called up to a camp in Schruns. Last but not least, eight girls made it into the squad of the women’s future team in Steindorf in Carinthia. “This underlines the excellent work of the coaches and confirms to us that the club’s chosen path is the right one,” says Ice Cats chairman Helmut Wiesinger.

**Editor:** Thank you for joining us today, Christina! Congratulations on your recent performance at the three-nation tournament in Norway! How do you feel about the team’s victory against Norway, especially with the nail-biting penalty shootout?
**Christina Bayer:** Thank you! It was an exhilarating match. Winning in a penalty shootout always adds to the excitement and intensity. Anna Meixner did a fantastic job scoring in regular play and then confidently converting in the shootout. We all worked hard as a team, and that makes the victory even sweeter.
**Editor:** You’ve been part of a successful team at the Ice Cats Linz, which has clearly influenced many players in the ÖEHV national team. How does your experience with the Ice Cats prepare you for the national competition?
**Christina Bayer:** Playing for the Ice Cats has been a tremendous foundation for my development. The coaching staff is dedicated and has really helped us evolve as players. We focus on teamwork and personal growth, which translates well when we compete nationally. The support from the club makes all the difference.
**Editor:** The Ice Cats Linz are the only women’s ice hockey club in Upper Austria, and it seems like there’s a strong talent pipeline emerging. Four younger players have already made it to the U16 national team! What does this say about the club’s development programs?
**Christina Bayer:** It’s fantastic to see so many players from the Ice Cats making it to various national team levels. It really highlights the commitment our coaches have towards developing young talent. The environment we foster here encourages growth, and I believe it shows in the performances on the ice.
**Editor:** Speaking of youthful talent, you have some players from the Ice Cats actively participating in the U18 national team as well. How does that feel, seeing fellow teammates compete on this level?
**Christina Bayer:** It’s incredibly inspiring! I love seeing our younger athletes step up and represent the Ice Cats and Austria on such a prestigious platform. They bring fresh energy and determination, which can elevate our entire team dynamics.
**Editor:** Lastly, as a player who has also appeared on the OÖN icebreaker podcast, what message do you want to convey to young girls interested in ice hockey?
**Christina Bayer:** I want to encourage them to pursue their passion, no matter the challenges they face. Ice hockey is a thrilling sport with opportunities for growth. Join a local team, train hard, and don’t be afraid to dream big! We’re proof that with dedication, anything is possible.
