Women’s Month: book series addresses more than 60 reports from women in IT

In celebration of Women’s month, the third volume of the “TI de Salto” series arrives once once more to reinforce the importance of women who work with technology, but also to address the presence of the female universe within IT and cultural diversity and ethnicity and the visibility they have nowadays.

The work was developed by businesswoman Sylvia Bellio, CEO and Co-founder of itl.tech, who has more than 20 years of experience in the technology market, works for female empowerment and is the only woman to sit on the board of Dell Technologies partner companies in the Brazil.

In the three volumes, the creator accompanied almost 70 stories of women who work with IT and other areas of the sector, such as science and education. In these reports, most are made up of striking excerpts of chauvinistic challenges and situations faced by the authors.

Importance of the theme and the female presence in the labor market

In 2019, data from the National Household Sample Survey (PNAD), carried out by IBGE, pointed out that only 20% of professionals in the technology sector are composed of women. Another survey also revealed that only 13.3% of Computing and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) students were women.

With the advancement of science, and an increasingly digital and technological world, in this way, the trend is to have more and more jobs in the areas of STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics). Given this, it is clear the importance of opening new opportunities for the inclusion of women in the technological job market and also in other areas and prominent positions.

Visibility for diversity within companies

Leda Regina Blagevitch, one of the women present in the third volume of the book series, is fully engaged with D&I (Diversity and Inclusion), Customer Experience (CX) and Employee Experience (EX). She says it’s also important to be committed to embracing diversity and making room for everyone, regardless of race, ethnicity, culture and gender.

“It is necessary to innovate and increase the creativity of companies and this is only possible by leaving paradigms aside and making room for inclusion and diversity”, emphasizes Leda.

Another author, Sueli Nascimento Gavranic dos Reis, also supports and is in favor of diversity in the professional environment. She is the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion leader of the Women and Racial Equity networks, and is also a member of WOMCY, Mulheres do Brasil and SerMulherem Tech.

Technology and sustainability

The use of innovative and sustainable technological systems that promote the preservation of the environment is increasingly noticeable. Several companies and startups already adhere to the ESG seal, which adopts the use of sustainable practices within this corporate world. As a result, the demand for technology professionals in various sectors has also grown.

Sandra Bombardi has a degree in Systems Analysis and Data Processing Administration from PUC Campinas, with an MBA in Technology Management and a postgraduate degree in Environment and Sustainability, and today she is very dedicated to the subject of People Management in Technology.

She points out that it is necessary to invest in the adoption of these practices and also in the inclusion of female professionals who work within the sector. “Today there is a high demand for technology professionals, mainly to perform innovative procedures that do not involve pollution and contamination of the environment. Maybe this is the chance to offer more opportunities to women”.

The quest for equality between all genders

Sylvia has also experienced similar situations and says that she overcame and broke the sexist expression “the IT boy”, breaking down different barriers to gain and receive equal treatment.

“Reality still calls for many actions, postures and an update of our archaic cultural software, the one that runs in the heads of the market, so that inclusion becomes a reality and technology can prosper even more with the contribution of all genres”, he concludes. .
