Women’s French Cup: a shock PSG – Lyon in the round of 16

Clearly, the women’s teams of PSG and OL cannot leave each other. The two best teams in French football have another meeting, but this time in the round of 16 of the Coupe de France on Saturday January 29 at 2 p.m. (Eurosport 2). The match will be played at the Georges-Lefèvre stadium in the Loges camp, with PSG hosting Nice at the Parc on Monday January 31 (9:15 p.m.), and the Stade Français hosting Toulon in Jean-Bouin on Sunday 30 (9:05 p.m.).

In the Coupe de France in recent years, Paris and Lyon had faced each other in the final in 2018 where PSG had ended six victories for the Lyonnaises. In 2019, OL eliminated PSG in the quarter-finals. In 2020, once more in the final, Lyon narrowly won on penalties.

This season, the first championship meeting between the two teams, in November, gave rise to a very special match due to the Parisian context. In the midst of the Diallo-Hamraoui affair, the reigning French champions sank at Groupama Stadium (6-1). The Parisian coach, Didier Ollé-Nicolle, had estimated that the championship had been “distorted” by the holding of the meeting which PSG had requested, in vain, to postpone.

While waiting to be able to take his revenge in the league – the return match not being scheduled until May 28 during the penultimate day – PSG might also find Lyon in the semi-final of the Champions League, if the two teams win their quarters.

Note also that Fleury will travel to Strasbourg (D2), which Paris FC will host Le Havre (D3). Issy was dominated by Lille (5-1) and therefore will not face Yzeure (D2).
