Women’s football teams of Pakistan and Saudi Arabia compete

Pakistan women’s football team is competing against the host country Saudi Arabia team.

The two teams are competing in a match of the six-nation football tournament at the King Fahd Stadium in Taif city.

Teams from Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Laos, Malaysia and Bhutan are participating in the women’s football tournament.

Under the leadership of captain Maria Jameel Khan, Pakistan tied the match 0-0 against Malaysia on Thursday.

The Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) has said in its message on the social networking site X (formerly Twitter) that ‘Pakistan’s winning bid against Saudi Arabia has resumed.’

The Pakistani team last traveled to Saudi Arabia in January this year to participate in the four-nation tournament in which Comoros and Morocco also participated.

The Pakistani team lost 2-1 to Morocco before beating Comoros, but ended the tournament in impressive fashion, drawing 1-1 against strong Saudi Arabia.

This tournament was won by Saudi Arabia. However, Maria Jameel Khan’s free kick goal against Saudi Arabia was highly appreciated on social media.

One of the recent achievements of the Pakistan women’s football team is their 7-0 defeat of Maldives in the South Asian Football Federation Championship in September 2022.

In April this year, Pakistan defied all odds to win the Paris Olympics 2024 qualifiers by defeating Tajikistan 1-0.

It was Pakistan’s first victory in a major international tournament since returning to regular international football in September 2022 after a long hiatus. Earlier, the team only achieved success in friendly matches or exhibition tournaments like the Four Nations Cup in Saudi Arabia.
