Women’s Champions League | PSG eliminated in the quarter-finals after their draw against Wolfsburg (1-1)

PSG will not see the last four. This Thursday evening, the Parisiennes, defeats in the first leg (0-1), could not do better than a draw on the lawn of Wolfsburg (1-1), during the quarter-final return of the Champions League feminine. At the Volkswagen Arena, Alexandra Popp (20th) surprised Paris Saint-Germain, before Kadidiatou Diani (30th) equalized. Gérard Prêcheur’s proteges never managed to score this second goal to play extra time. In the semi-finals, the Louves will face the English Arsenal.

At the break, Kadidiatou Diani was forced, in tears, to leave her partners prematurely, after injuring her right shoulder. An outing that certainly hurt the Parisians a lot. As so often this season, the striker had done the job during the first 45 minutes of play. To score her 26th goal of the season, in all competitions. Well found by Sakina Karchaoui, the center-forward did not tremble when concluding, with a header, to equalize (30th, 1-1).

Wolfsburg hit three amounts

The French international had already distinguished herself at the very start of the match, scoring the first goal, but the VAR then confirmed that she was offside at the start of this action (11th). Gérard Prêcheur’s protégés had therefore entered their game perfectly well and Laurina Fazer had even been the first to frame (5th). But, after the break, everything was reversed and the Parisian offensive potential had a hard time expressing itself. Only Kheira Hamraoui (49th) then Ashley Lawrence (90th +2) managed to solicit Merle Frohms.

The German goalkeeper was able to respond present, especially since in front, success fled her partners, who tried to give themselves some air, at the level of the scoreboard. Like this post found by Alexandra Popp (53rd) and these two crossbars hit by Lena Oberdof (77th) then by Sveindis Jane Jonsdottir (85th). Finally, the Louves only needed one goal to continue the adventure.

Popp in all the right moves

A goal came on their very first shot on target of this meeting. At the entrance to the surface, Alexandra Popp deceived Sarah Bouhaddi, placing her ball under the bar (20th, 1-0). Top scorer in the Bundesliga this year with twelve goals, Popp had not managed to find the fault in C1 for two good years. In all good moves, the German international however never managed to deceive the Parisian door again (28th, 46th), before also seeing Grace Geyoro repel another of her attempts, on the line (60th).

At kick-off, Tommy Stroot had decided to do without Ewa Major, top scorer this season in the Champions League (seven goals). The Pole finally entered before the last quarter of an hour of play, without however succeeding in participating in the celebration (81st), just like her replacement, at the forefront of the attack, Jill Roord (58th). But on arrival, the essential is assured. With a new qualification in the last four, for Germans who have not been titled since 2014.
