The Association of Women Filmmakers and Audiovisual Media (CIMA) has called for “zero tolerance” in cases of sexual assault, following the episode that occurred at the Feroz Awards, denounced this Sunday, in which a 55-year-old man has already been arrested .
“We do not care who the aggressor is, it is intolerable that this type of act occurs. Zero tolerance is the guideline from which any type of decision must be started,” said the president of CIMA, Virginia Yagüe, in statements to Europa Press.
Yagüe has affirmed that CIMA’s board of directors will address the issue at a future meeting, as will the Film Academy, as he has assured, because “disapproval” by the institutions is important and he trusts that there will be a general consensus.
The director has highlighted the importance of the complaint protocol because “it generates a very specific perception that means that these cases no longer go unpunished”. “The complaint is always effective. The fact that this complaint exists and there is a unanimous position once morest it, means that any subsequent attempt will diminish,” she has pointed out.
For this reason, Yagüe has stressed that the “way” to follow is to “activate all the protocols that guarantee the complaint and have a very unanimous professional position.”
FESTIVAL OF THE FIERCE
At the Fiesta de los Feroz 2023, held at dawn this Sunday at the Espacio Ebro in Zaragoza, a man and a woman reported having suffered sexual assaults. The alleged events occurred between 4:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. this Sunday and the Family and Women’s Unit (UFAM) of the National Police is investigating what happened, sources from the Aragon Police Headquarters have confirmed to Europa Press.
So far, a 55-year-old man has been arrested for these events. For its part, the Zaragoza City Council has expressed its “absolute condemnation and rejection of any sexual assault”, underlining its confidence in the investigations that are already underway and that these can clarify what happened as soon as possible.
