Actress Yami Gautam says that the word ‘women centric’ will become redundant in the coming times. The way women have been represented in movies has been problematic for ages. Other actresses were leading the way. The actress said that the change is not far away.
“I feel that the word ‘female-centric’ will become redundant in the coming times. We know why the word is being used. The way women have been represented in films has improved over the years. In the past, we had ‘Mother India’ and some legendary actresses used her influence. We had actresses like Sridevi and Smita Patil. .Actresses like Nutan, Hema Malini, Waheeda Rahman and others are making a big impact in this generation.
It is a process that takes time. We have some amazing female writers today. We need to live together, not competition. When we talk regarding equality, it means equality of opportunity. One does not always challenge the other. It’s also regarding balance. And the content should be good. A strong actress is not enough for them to be good films. You may start watching a movie for its concept, but if you don’t like the movie, you won’t remember it. I think you should write better roles and make better films.”
Yami’s upcoming film ‘Lost’ is directed by Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury. It will be released on February 17 on Sea5. Along with Yami, the film also stars Pankaj Kapoor, Neil Bhupalam, Piya Bajpi and Tusshar Pandey. The story of Lost revolves around Yami.
