A woman was shot dead on Saturday in Strasshof an der Nordbahn (Gänserndorf district). The suspected shooter then turned himself in to the police and was arrested, a spokeswoman for the Lower Austria State Police Directorate told APA in the followingnoon. The crime was committed shortly following 1:30 p.m. The woman was a 33-year-old Austrian citizen and the perpetrator was her ex-partner.
The woman was shot with a handgun in front of her house and died a short time later on the spot, as the spokeswoman explained. The suspect probably confessed to the crime and was arrested without resistance by officers from the Deutsch Wagram police station. The 35-year-old is a Swedish citizen and the victim’s former partner. He was registered at a different residential address than the woman. The Lower Austria State Criminal Police Office took over the further investigation. No information was yet available on the motive for the crime. But there may have been witnesses to the crime.
The crime scene was located directly on the main street in Strasshof, shortly following entering the town near single-family homes. The police then cordoned off the area extensively. The investigators got an idea of the situation over the course of the followingnoon. The crime scene work and the interviews with the perpetrator and the witnesses were still ongoing in the early evening.
